Disney (DIS) shares traded up 32 cents to $32.50 during morning trading, and the company is scheduled to announce earnings on Feb. 9 after the market closes. DIS did not announce any news this morning, but we saw heavy buying action out of the gate. The January 32.5 calls have traded 7,500 times on the day, and we saw several blocks trade near the ask price of 90 cents. We also saw the January 32.5 straddle expand slightly to $1.78 from $1.75 yesterday afternoon.

Wal-Mart (WMT) shares are up five cents to $54.03 this morning, and the market expects the company to announce earnings figures sometime around Feb. 18. The January 52.5 puts have crossed the tape 7,600 times, and we saw a large block trade at an ask price of 55 cents. It looks like an investor bought these puts anticipating a near-term slide in the stock.

Unit Corp. (UNT) shares are trading at $42.59, up 57 cents during the first hour of trading without any news from the company, and it looks like call buyers are looking for further upside. The January 45 calls have traded 5,000 times versus open interest of just 720 contracts. UNT has not announced an earnings release date, but the market expects the company’s quarterly report sometime around Feb. 24.
